Today you turn one year old. There is no going back baby. There will be so many more responsibilities coming your way. In the next year, you are expected to learn to walk, talk, and maybe even feed yourself and if I am lucky, you will start to potty train.
It may seem like a lot. But don’t worry. I have no doubt in you because you have already accomplished so much. In your first year of life, you have:
- Gone camping for over 70 days, through sun, rain and wind.
- Got 10 mosquito bites on just one side of your face and didn’t whimper once.
- Had a bloody nose when you smashed your face on the jerry can.
- Had a bruised cheek from something I didn’t even notice. When strangers asked me what happened to your cheek, I blamed it on your brother.
- Got body slammed by your brother regularly. He can’t wait to wrestle with you for real.
- Eaten a jalapeño, accidentally.
You never whined about any of the above. You are tough, resilient and calm. In fact, you never ever complain except when you are hungry or sleepy. Both of which can be remedied very quickly.
You have such a sweet temperament. I like to think of you as my Sweet Jamie. We can always count on your beautiful smile and we can not get enough of your laugh. You are the most ticklish baby we know and we use that to our advantage to hear that angelic chuckle.
You are a very friendly baby. We are traveling through Mexico now and everywhere we go people touch you, ask to hold you, sing to you. You welcome the attention and sometimes will snuggle your head on their shoulders, melting everyone. When you snuggle against me and daddy, you melt us too.
One of your favorite activities is playing peekaboo with us. And your favorite toy is just paper. All sorts of paper and you love tearing them to pieces. But your absolute favorite thing is probably your brother. You adore your brother and want a part of whatever he is doing all the time. I hope by the time you care to read this that you and Ty are close and there for each other.
Jamie you spent the first four months of your life almost constantly in my embrace. You would only sleep when you were on my chest. Now you are on the road with us living in a van. The world is your backyard. Strangers are your friends. You may not have many memories from this part of your life. But I am so curious how this upbringing will have shaped you from the inside. And it will. Even at your young age. Your mind is a sponge.
Your first year has been such a gift to all of us. I am very excited about what is to come. I love you dearly my sweet Jamie. Happy 1st birthday.
